Welcome to Navarro High School Art and Design 2017-2018!
Welcome to NHS visual arts! NISD has been my home as an art educator for 13 years; it is truly a pleasure and honor to share my love of visual arts with our students.
A successful learning environment occurs when the entire process is a conversation and the command of the medium, techniques and subject matter become a fabric. Every class holds a community of learners; each one vibrating on their own color in the spectrum, differing in abilities and learning styles. I strive to implement a curriculum that involves the interests and special needs of every student through a differentiated instructional framework. Developing curriculum around student interests fosters intrinsic motivation and stimulates the passion to learn. When students take ownership in the curriculum, they are motivated to work harder and master skills needed to reach their goals. In order to help students meet their fullest potential, I meet with each student on an individual basis, working to find appropriate projects that promote personal expression and success. By allowing time and space in a positive environment, students can carry confidence through authentic applications into real-world situations.
The content landscape of the art classroom is cross-curricular and mixed with life experience. Incorporating principles of academic disciplines with the visual art TEKS and a broad palette of techniques conjures a personal and emotional expression that can be intense and rewarding.
Teaching has become an opportunity for continuous growth for me as an educator, on a personal level as an artist, mother and member of the community. I seek to encourage a love of learning in my students as I share my passion for creating art with them. Communication and compassion through the realm of artistic mediums facilitates healthier and more creative individuals and I am compelled to a part of it.
"The artist must possess the courageous soul that dares and defies."
