We will also cover the basics of theatre history and technical theatre.
Prerequisite: Completion of previous year course
The advanced theatre courses build on the skills learned in theatre 1. Advanced theatre students are afforded the opportunity to develop theatre, interpersonal, problem solving, and leadership skills. Special emphasis will be given to character development, acting styles, improvisation, playwriting, and directing. Theatre III and IV will have an opportunity to direct scenes with their peers. All students are required to participate in one after school performance of their scenes in the spring and to attend and critique one play.
Prerequisite: None
Through diverse forms of theatrical production students will exercise and develop creativity, intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative skills. First year technicians will learn shop safety, the basics of all areas of technical theatre (set, properties, lighting, sound, publicity, stage management, costumes, makeup, and new media), theatre history, and the process for evaluation and response. You will construct, paint, sew, research, draft, design, and evaluate a variety of theatrical productions.
Prerequisite: Completion of previous year course
The advanced technical theatre courses will build upon skills learned in Technical Theatre I. Through diverse forms of theatrical production students are afforded the opportunity to develop design, interpersonal, problem solving, and leadership skills. For returning technicians this will be a combination practicum and class. They will specialize in one area of technical theatre (lighting, sound, costumes, scenic, or stage management) and using this specialization will design for one production during the Navarro Theatre Season. Students will explore options available to a technician after graduation. Students are required to design a portfolio and attend and critique one play.
Prerequisite: Audition and teacher approval
All aspects of production, from acting and technical standpoints, will be explored. Our acting focuses will be on the actor’s intention, voice and diction, character relationships, and physicalization of characters. Our technical focuses will be on the design process, programming, and communication. This course requires after-school rehearsals and performance times, focusing on a fall production, UIL oral interpretation, UIL One Act Play, and an original work. Students must be willing to participate both as actors and crew members. When not actively on or backstage, students will focus on a variety of design and research projects. Students will be required to attend and critique one play per semester.
